Decomposition of the Chinese Characters. What is It?
Different Chinese language teachers name decomposition of the Chinese characters in different ways. The synonymic names are: Structural analysis of the Chinese characters, Breakdown of the Chinese characters, etc.

The essence of these terms is the same: analysis. The Chinese language is a very analytical language and the Chinese characters are learned and memorized only by means of analysis. Try to analyze the Chinese character 什 shén ‘what’ and you will see how simple it is for memorizing!

Decomposition of the Chinese character 什 shén ‘what’

亻 rén man
十 shí ten
一 yī one
丨 gǔn line

亻十一丨

NB. Synonyms: Structural analysis of the Chinese characters, Breakdown of the Chinese characters.

mini fridge + microwave for sale
Yet another graduating senior trying to get rid of stuff post.

Fridge is approximately 33" tall, 18" deep, and 19" wide. Has a freezer section at the top of the fridge. Magnets not included. The microwave is basically a microwave. I'll give everything a good cleaning and can possibly help you transport it if necessary.

Everything is in good working condition, but I really don't want to haul it across the country with me, so I'll start the bidding at 20$. Make me an offer I can't refuse at niclark [at] vassar [dot] edu.

Mini-Fridge
Yo Vassar,

I've got a sweet mini-fridge that's going to Swapr if no one nabs it now. It fits all nice and snug under a Vassar bed and holds enough food to feed a summer resident for a week (or less if you eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies). Doesn't keep things frozen for long, but it'll keep ice cream for a few days on the "HIGH" setting. (What heathen would have ice cream for longer?)

Anyway if you are interested in this beaut before she ships off to Swapr, do send soroberts @ the vass an email and let me know.

Roommies in Washington, DC?
Hey Vassarites,

I'm going to be working in Virginia over the summer and the place I'm working runs a free shuttle from Washington, DC. I'd like to live there if possible. Would anyone like to team up with me to look for residences together? I'll only need to be there from June 1 to August 15.

Email me at soroberts at vassar dot edu if interested!

driving to Boston?
It's a long shot, but is anyone planning to drive to Boston next Saturday (4/3)? I'd need to leave pretty early in the day, and can of course help with gas, snacks, etc. Thanks!

Apartment for Rent for next year!
Hey Vassar,
Next year my roommates and I are moving around and that leaves our awesome apartment free for the taking! Right now we live in a lovely 3 bedroom apartment that's less than 5 minutes away from campus walking and we want YOU to take over next semester! The apartment has digital cable, high speed internet, A/C, good heat, and free utilities. It also comes with a ton of furniture and kitchen stuff. We each pay $400 a month to cover the rent, cable, internet, electricity, and some grocery stuff so rent could be even less than that depending on your cable/living preferences. We did the math and living here is actually less expensive than living on campus and you have way more freedom and privacy. Plenty of parking if you have a car! Pets welcome!

Here are some pics from before we moved in, most of this furniture is staying:

Basically, this is a great place and I really hope I can find another Vassar family to take over after us :) email me if you're interested!

Save the Rowing Team 5-Day Ergathan
I'm sure you've already heard about this, but the men's and women's rowing teams are being cut from varsity status by the Athletic Department. This means that the teams will be moving to a club model starting next school year (2010-2011) and that pretty soon the Athletic Department won't be providing any funding for the team, which means that the cost of equipment maintenance, uniforms, travel, lodging, and regatta entry fees will fall on the students who are participating.

In an effort to make that financial burden a little lighter for student-athletes, we're raising money for the team with a 5-day ergathon in the North Atrium of the College Center. The ergathon started today at noon and will continue until noon on Monday. We have rowers working out on indoor rowing machines continuously, and we're selling delicious baked goods. We'll also be selling spandex starting Thursday (tomorrow), which is probably the most popular item we've ever sold at a fundraiser.

We've also got shirts from races we've competed at in the last few years, news articles on the team, medals and trophies our team has won, and a display of quotes about what rowing means to us and why we continue to wake up at ungodly hours of the morning and go out into the cold to get an exhausting full-body workout five or six days a week.

So, come out and support Vassar Rowing. Any donation you can make is greatly appreciated, and even just adding your name to a list of people who support us is great.

Current Mood: hopeful

Selling Haier fridge - 4.6 cu ft & brand new
I'm selling a Haier 4.52 cu ft fridge purchased from BJs in September. Used for 2 months and practically brand new. Only stored oranges, grapefruits, water bottles, and almond butter. It's "collecting dust" in my dorm room and I'd like to give it a new home. It has adjustable shelves and a freezer compartment. BTW I live in Noyes.

Purchased for $150 after tax and selling for $120 or negotiable.

This is the exact fridge:

Only difference from the picture attached is that the top shelf has a freezer compartment and the color is black/metallic, not white.

Please comment on this entry if interested or e-mail waxtulip@yahoo.com

Thanks :)
